The Finger Lakes Are Full of Drama!

You don’t need to travel to New York City to experience incredible theatre. The Finger Lakes offer a wealth of plays, musicals and unique performances throughout the year. Big-time theatre lovers may want to purchase season’s tickets in advance. If you’re looking for family-friendly performances, there are plenty of plays to entertain kids and parents alike.  The Hangar Theatre in Ithaca produces the summer series called Kiddstuff with upcoming performances like Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse (July 29 – 31) and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (Aug 12 – 14). The Kitchen Theatre Company, also in Ithaca,  puts on several “G-rated” plays as part of their Family Fare series.

Arts education & appreciation emanate from many of the theatre venues in the Finger Lakes. There are fantastic offerings for apprenticeships, workshops, summer camps and training sessions led by experts and professional thespians. Local theatres strive to enrich the lives of their neighbors, and reciprocally, the sense of community tied to the arts in the Finger Lakes is incredible. These partnerships are evident when witnessing how patrons have donated to save, renovate and improve performing art spaces, many of which have been around for decades.
