Savor Summer in the Finger Lakes–from wine slush to brunch!

As summer slips into September next week, you will be looking for ways to sit in the sunshine and savor the season.  If you are hoping to kick back with some outdoor seating and a bottle of your favorite Finger Lakes flavor, head to Americana Vineyards and Winery in Interlaken, home of the seasonal “wine slushie” made from their own Barn Raising Red or Crystal Lake wines.

Buy a bottle or sip on a slush by the pond under the outdoor pavilion, where you can listen to live music every Sunday afternoon, or visit with the winery Labs, Max and Ruby, and let the kids run around the lawn while you relax with a glass.

Even better—if you want to complement your relaxing afternoon with a casual but tasty meal, visit The Crystal Lake Cafe, otherwise known as “the cafe at Americana,” which has become a treasure to the locals who have discovered it.  Most visitors stumble across the cafe via the winery when hunger kicks in after a few tastings, and most walk away nodding with approval for the impressive meal they just had.  The chefs make their own sausage, scones, bagels, and homemade fudge and serve dishes made from local ingredients and with an unexpected eye for presentation.  Choose from tapas-sized plates to share, an array of colorful salads, or entrees from lamb burgers to pulled pork, smoke flanked steak, barbecue chicken, or veg-friendly options like roasted veggies on ciabatta.  Grab a bite from noon until 6 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, or kick off the weekend with dinner, served until 8PM Thursday through Sunday.

If it’s pancakes you crave (or just about anything else!), then don’t miss Sunday brunch from 11AM until 3PM, for the best whole wheat oatmeal pancakes in the Finger Lakes.
