Outrage Grows: Lawsuit Targets Honeoye Win Over Cayuga

They say politics makes strange bedfellows—and that has never been more true.

This morning, two local advocacy groups filed a lawsuit against FingerLakes.com, seeking to overturn the results of the Finger Lakes Madness Tournament. The groups allege that the shocking upset of Cayuga Lake by underdog Honeoye Lake was unfair, unjust, and hurtful to many.

Strange Bedfellows - Liberals and Conservatives Partner in Lawsuit

What might be the most shocking part of this story is who has partnered together in this lawsuit – the Cayuga Area Reputation Enforcement Network (C.A.R.E.N.) – a group of liberal women who love Cayuga Lake and The Finger Lakes Regional Alliance for Uncovering Discrepancies (F.R.A.U.D) a right wing group dedicated to finding election fraud.

How it Started - a Shocking Tournament Upset

In the second round of the tournament, #1 seed Cayuga Lake faced the 8th seed Honeoye Lake. Oddsmakers in Vegas had Cayuga as a 30 gallon favorite – but the fans of Honeoye had other ideas. While Cayuga stormed to an early lead – the fans of Honeoye didn’t give up.  Slowly but surely they commented “Honeoye” on the Facebook post, racking up point after point. Meanwhile, Cayuga fans thought they had it in the bag and they stopped voting. And in the end – they won by a score of 72 to 56.

The Allegations - Fraud, Unfairness & Hurt Feelings

The lawsuit alleges that the voting was both unfair on many levels and rife with fraud.

Karen Mortimer, President of C.A.R.E.N. who is well known locally for her opposition to music, noise and fun said “These results were not only illogical and wrong, but also super mean and they hurt a lot of feelings. The kids at Cornell are a mess – they haven’t had this much disappointment since they got their rejection letters from Princeton”

And Tommy Espoziti, president of F.R.A.U.D says “This evidence will show this was clearly another instance of voter fraud and we will not let this stand. Fraud is everywhere and the people of Cayuga Lake – even the crazy libs deserve better.” When pressed further about the pervasiveness of voter fraud, he pointed out that he recently overturned the Trumansburg 4th Grade Student Council Election after spectral analysis showed Quinn Jackson voted using a #3 pencil – “a clear violation” according to Espoziti.

The “Evidence”

Espoziti shared with us evidence he says is clear proof of fraud. “Right here – someone supposedly named Susan Twillinger voted for Honeoye. She put them over the top to beat Cayuga. Now let’s look at her Facebook profile. All she does is like pictures of cats – almost 30 times per day since 2012. Obviously no human does that. She is clearly a George Soros bot”.

We found a “Susan Twillinger” in the phone book and stopped by her house, which sits just half a mile from Honeoye Lake. Soft spoken and slightly confused, she told us she remembered voting for Honeoye because “Delores Swanson shared it and asked me to vote. And Delores has the cutest tabby this side of Livonia”.

The evidence presented by Karen Mortimer of C.A.R.E.N. seems even more suspect. She says “our lake is longer, deeper and on a per resident basis we use 17% less fertilizer than they do. And why can’t everyone win?”. She says the vote has caused the value of her lakefront home to drop by several thousand dollars. “I doubt I could sell for a penny over $980,000 now – it’s just not fair!”

Up Next - an Emergency Hearing

The emergency hearing to decide on an injunction happens at 9am tomorrow morning before Judge Jason  Moldenhower. Depending on his ruling, the FingerLakes.com Finger Lakes Madness tournament may have to be restarted with new rules.

But Wait - Opposites Attract?

We won’t spill the beans just yet, but lets just say we saw a very cute couple enjoying a miller light and a kombucha together at a nice little restaurant across from the courthouse this morning. Stay tuned for more details on this budding relationship…
